In which we eat

Wow, this Sunday was so much fun for what little I actually got accomplished! I woke up around nine and met g² at ten to go to Talensac, the market I mentioned earlier. Our objective: buy lots of delicious fresh food in order to prepare a dinner for all of us that night. I have for some time been craving the seafood stew my mom used to make from time to time (mostly the broth, really, is what I was after), so I figured why not make an event out of it? We got to the market and I successfully bought several pounds of seafood, including shrimp, mussels, and an unidentified kind of white fish. The others got ingredients for salad, and stocked up on bread and wine, and then we went back to do homework or, in my case, peel and de-vein all the shrimp I had bought. A note on that: the shrimp I bought were still in the shell, but already cooked. This was not ideal, but my only other choice for shrimp were very tiny ones that were still very much alive, and I just couldn't deal with that. I have never even peeled shrimp before, let alone killing them first. I did manage to get them all prepared, though, and we met up again at five in the kitchen on Nicole's floor (she's on the first floor, so it's easiest for everyone to get to).

I began to chop up the onions, and promptly cut my finger with my very sharp knife. It was pretty deep, actually, but luckily Sophie long hair had a band-aid I could use. I felt fine for the most part afterward, but when I actually looked at it and saw how deep it was, I felt a little lightheaded and had to sit down for a minute or two. Apart from that incident, however, everything went very smoothly, and the stew turned out just how I remembered it. While we were waiting, Nicole taught us a card game involving trumps and tricks (my family knows how bad I am at those), but it was really fun. Anyway, we had a wonderful dinner and felt very proud of ourselves for our cooking prowess, and also for the fact that we left that kitchen cleaner than we found it!

The fun doesn't end there, though. Sunday night is also one of our traditional PET (Planet Earth and Tea) nights, so after cleaning up and putting our cooking things back in our rooms we met up again and watched our second to last :( episode. We also succeeded in booking our lodgings for next weekend in Marseilles (I don't know if I've mentioned that yet, actually, but we're going to Marseilles next weekend). I'm so excited! We've printed out our boarding passes, so all that's left to do is figure out how to get to the airport, and go!
